Reuters Bangalore plans

Global information provider Reuters has inaugurated its finance business data centre in Bangalore.

Geert Linnebank, Reuters' editor-in-chief and head of content operations, says, "We are creating the largest single hub of information gathering within Reuters in Bangalore."

He said Bangalore would become Reuter's biggest information hub and employ up to 1,500 people, or 10 per cent of its total workforce. The center would employ mostly data and technical employees.

Reuters has already hired 340 employees to compile and analyse data and expects to have 400 by the end of this year at the Bangalore office. The number would go upto 1,000 by the end of 2005 and between 1,200 and 1,500 over the next year and a half, according to Linnebank.

Reuters employs 14,700 people globally and with the Bangalore center becoming operable it is set to become the biggest of four global data centers.
