Mumbai: The board of approvals (BoA) for special economic zones (SEZs) has given formal clearances to 26 proposals and an in-principle nod to eight others taking the total number of SEZs cleared so far to 212.

The proposals given in-principle nod include two by Dr Reddy's Laboratories (DRL) in Andhra Pradesh.

The BoA considered a total of 82 proposals out of which 34 were cleared. While the board has given formal clearance to a total of 212 proposals, it has granted in-principle approvals to 152 so far, an official release said.

The proposals given formal clearance include an SEZ each for food processing and pharmaceuticals proposed by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board, a sugarcane processing complex in Karnataka, proposed by Shree Renuka Sugars and Parsvnath Developers' IT SEZ in Kerala.

The board also gave formal nod to TCG Urban Infrastructure Holdings' biotech SEZ in Kerala, APIIC's two biotech and pharma SEZs in Andhra Pradesh, Mayatas Properties' three SEZs in Andhra Pradesh and Emaar Hills Township's IT SEZ in Andhra Pradesh.

DRL's two proposals for pharma SEZs in Andhra Pradesh were given in-principle approval. Other proposals that were given in-principle nod include Writers and Publishers' 2,000 hectare multi-product SEZ in Chhattisgarh and Hinduja Investments' TextileSEZ in Bangalore.
