Tata Daewoo develops South Korea's first LNG-powered tractor-trailer

Mumbai: Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company Ltd. (TDCV), the second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in South Korea and a 100-per cent subsidiary of Tata Motors, has developed South Korea's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered heavy tractor-trailer.

TDCV pioneered the design, development and manufacture of the new LNG tractor, under an arrangement sponsored by the Korea Gas Corporation. The development work on the vehicle began in September 2004.

The environment-friendly commercial vehicle is expected to evoke encouraging response from customers, with its fuel efficiency, economy of operation. .

Korea Gas will test drive the vehicle during the second half of the year with a view to introducing it in the market in 2007.

TDCV, which was acquired by Tata Motors in 2004, posted a turnover of Rs1,584 crore in 2005-06, a growth of over 34.5 per cent over the 2004-05 turnover of Rs1,178 crore. TDCV also reported a 160 per cent rise in profit after tax at Rs.58.31 crore in 2005-06 against Rs.22.46 crore in 2004-05.
