Mumbai: The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries & Agriculture (MCCIA) has announced the launch of Pune Expo 2004, due to be held from February 12 to 16, 2004. The announcement was made by Atul Kirloskar, President, MCCIA in Mumbai. Former chief minister of Maharashtra Sharad Pawar, will inaugurate the Expo.
Speaking on the occasion, Kirloskar said, "The Chamber started Pune Expo in 2002 as a step towards recession recovery. It is a great pleasure to see this event grow bigger and better every year. This year, the Expo will have participants from overseas, as well. We expect about 400 organisations to participate." He also pointed out that the Pune fair would be the largest integrated trade fair in Asia.
Kirloskar pointed out that the Pune Expo series has been an excellent launch pad for new products and services and had become a platform for generating new business. Over Rs 35 crore worth of business was transacted in the last two years at the Pune Expo, and the number was expected to double in 2004
He also said that since there was nothing in the southern part of the country which was similar to the permanent expo venue of New Delhi's Pragati, Pune is endeavouring to step in to fill the gap.
