Emirates may increase size of A380 order

Singapore: Emirates Airline is likely to place further orders for the Airbus A380, the world''s largest passenger plane, in order to meet expansion plans, according to a senior airline executive.

Emirates Airline is Airbus'' biggest customer for the superjumbo with 55 of these aircraft already on order. It is expected to start taking delivery of the plane from August 2008. According to Emirates Group executive vice chairman, Maurice Flanagan, there could be more orders later. He spoke to media persons on the sidelines of an aviation conference in Singapore without divulging details.

According to Flanagan, the airline was currently expanding its capacity by more than 20 per cent a year, and that its rapid growth was taking place in tandem with Dubai''s enhanced importance as an aviation hub.

Flanagan said that with Dubai increasing its importance as a global aviation hub, Emirates could now connect any two points in the world with just one stop in Dubai.
