Haj operations delay launch of domestic service by Air India Express

New Delhi: The scheduled launch of low cost carrier, Air India Express''s domestic operations has now been deferred with most of the airline''s aircraft being diverted for the Haj pilgrimage beginning mid-November, an airline official said on Wednesday. Air India Express is the international low-cost airline of state-owned carrier Air-India, which has now been given the mandate to provide low cost services within the country as well.

It is expected that the carrier may now commence domestic services in January.

"We are re-scheduling Air-India Express'' domestic operations as several of its aircraft would be diverted for Haj. Once these aircraft are back we would launch operations in the domestic sectors," the airline official added.

Air India Express has so far focussed primarily on the Gulf sector.
