China Eastern Airlines to start Kolkata-Kunming direct services from Oct 30
26 October 2007Kolkata: Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines (CEA), one of the communist nation''s largest airlines, has announced the launch of direct flights between Kolkata and Kunming, the capital of the Chinese province of Yunnan. The direct services between the two cities will be available thrice a week, beginning October 30.
Kunming is known for its tourist attractions.
Meanwhile, airline officials said that the airline is also eyeing major Indian cities like Mumbai and Bangalore for links with Chinese metros, such as Shanghai.
"We are eyeing the Indian metros where the passenger airline traffic is growing at a fast pace. Mumbai and Bangalore figure prominently on our radar." Ginger Jiang Wei, the CEAs Indian representative told reporters here.
CEA announced an introductory fare of Rs18,500 (inclusive of taxes) for the two way trip between Kolkata and Kunming. This introductory package includes a three-night stay in Kunming.
