Car, truck sales rise in December as two-wheelers dip

Car sales in the Indian domestic market rose 15.26 per cent to 1,52,743 units in December 2014 as compared to 1,32,524 units in December 2013, according to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) today.
At the same time, motorcycle sales declined 3.52 per cent to 7,79,908 units from 8,08,389 units a year earlier – a change from recent years, when two-wheeler sales registered continued growth while car sales declined.

Sales of commercial vehicles – a key indicator of business activity - rose 9.01 per cent to 51,000 units in December, SIAM said.
Vehicle sales across categories registered an increase of 5.68 per cent to 15,12,881 units from 14,31,543 units in December 2013.
