M&M, Tata Motors report higher sales in August

Auto majors Mahindra & Mahindra and rival Tata Motors today reported increased sales in August despite the current economic downturn that saw the country's economy slowing in the first quarter of the current financial year.

Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 21.74-per cent increase in sales at 45,836 units in August against 37,684 units in the same month last year.

Domestic sales of M&M stood at 42,826 units during the month against 35,756 units in August 2011, up 19.77 per cent, the company said in a release.

The passenger vehicles segment, which includes the UVs and Verito, registered 39.37 per cent increase at 21,831 units against 15,664 units in the year-ago month.

Exports jumped 56.12 per cent to 3,010 units in August 2012, from 1,928 units in the same month last year.

Tata Motors' total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles, stood at 71,826 units in August, up 12 per cent over August 2011 sales.
