SkodaAuto India, Volkswagen report sales growth in January 2011

Mumbai: With auto sales galloping across the spectrum of auto products, European carmakers, SkodaAuto India and Volkswagen too have reported impressive sales growth for January 2011.
With total sales for January 2011 at 2825 units, as against 1881 units in January 2010, SkodaAuto India has registered a sales growth of 51 per cent. SkodaAuto India is a fully owned subsidiary of SkodaAuto a.s., Czech Republic.
Contributing substantially to the growth were the newly launched Skoda Yeti and the new Skoda Fabia.
"2011 has started on a very positive note. Our sales increase of 51 per cent is testimonial for our future growth plan in India," SkodaAuto India's board member, sales and marketing, Thomas Kuehl said.
As for marquee brand Volkswagen it too has registered impressive growth in 2011 with 5,601 vehicles sold in the month of January. It sold over 5000 units of the Polo hatchback and its sedan version, the Vento, in January, a press release said.
"We look forward to further strengthening the position of both our volume models in the coming months and ensure a good growth rate of our premium models in the market," Volkswagen passenger cars member of board, director, Neeraj Garg said.
