Car sales surge in November

Carmakers have reported major gains in November with new models and festival offers driving up sales despite consumer concerns over rising fuel costs and tax hikes.

Tractor and SUV major Mahindra & Mahindra reported an 18 per cent increase in total sales at 48,143 units in November, including export of 1,388 units. Domestic sales stood at 46,755 units. The company had sold 40,722 units in November 2011.

M&M's domestic sales rose 23 per cent to 46,755 units in November 2012 against 38,159 units sold during November 2011. Sales were boosted by sales of its compact SUV Quanto.

Passenger vehicles segment (which includes the UVs and Verito) grew by 38 per cent to 24,604 units in November 2012 compared with 17,813 units in November 2011.

Four-wheeler commercial vehicle sales, including both passenger and load categories, recorded a growth of 7 per cent at 14353 units, while 3-wheeler sales grew 17 per cent to 6,867 units in November 2012.

Exports during November 2012 stood at 1,388 units.
