Maruti to launch new Alto 800 next week; prices to be in Rs2.5-3.0 lakh range
09 October 2012
In a bid to regain lost ground in the small car segment, India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India will launch a completely new version of its erstwhile best selling model Alto next week.
Media reports put the price of the new Maruti Alto 800 at around Rs2.5-3 lakh, allowing it to compete with the Tata Nano and the Hyundai EON.
The company would launch an all-new Alto 800 on 16 October to replace the existing Alto as it sought to overcome tough market conditions, especially high petrol price and interest rates that had hurt the sales of small cars. A CNG option is also being offered with new Alto 800.
The company was banking on Alto 800's improved fuel efficiency of 22.74 kmpl, which was 15 per cent higher than the previous model, to be a key factor to create customer pull apart from its new design and other features such improved gearshift and greater legroom for rear passengers.
The car would be offered in six variants-three in CNG and three in petrol. The petrol variant is expected to give a mileage of around 23 kilometre per litre while the CNG version would give a mileage of around approximately 31 kilometre per litre. The car would feature fashionable and trendy interiors with stylish headlamps, better headroom and legroom.
The car would come in six vibrant colours with the petrol version priced likely between Rs2.5 lakh and Rs3 lakh and the CNG version to be priced between Rs3 lakh and Rs3.5 lakh.
