Kawasaki launches quarter-litre streetbike Z250 and 650cc ER-6n

Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Kawasaki yesterday launched its quarter-litre streetbike Z250, based on the Ninja 250R, and the 650cc ER-6n.

The Z250 comes with a price tag of Rs2.99 lakh while its elder sibling, the ER-6n, is being offered for Rs4.78 lakh, The Hindu reported.

The 249cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin-engine in the Z250 delivers a maximum power of 32 PS at 11,000 RPM and a peak torque of 21 N-m at 10,000 RPM with the transmission to the wheels achieved with a 6-speed gearbox.

The Z-800-inspired quarter-litre bike sports a stripped down design with minimum body panels and a diamond type steel frame for the chassis on lines of the 250R.

The motorcycle optimises fuel consumption with its Fuel Injection system and dual throttle valve technology. For braking, the bike relies on a single 290m petal disc at the front while it has a 220mm one at the rear.

The Kawasaki ER-6n's 649cc motor delivers a healthy 72.1 PS of power at 8,500 RPM and a maximum torque of 64 N-m at 7,000 RPM.

''The super bike market in India is very attractive and has been growing at 30-40 per cent. We hope to register faster than the industry in India. We will come out with more new launches this year,'' said Shigeto Nishikawa, deputy managing director of India Kawasaki Motors Pvt Ltd, while announcing the launch of the company's exclusive dealership in Chennai.

The bike extends the company's Z range of naked street bikes, the Z800 and the Z1000 to become the smallest offering for the brand in India.

The Z250 which weighs 168kg features a fuel tank capacity of 17 litres. The styling of the bike is more less similar to the Z800, which is essentially the last generation design philosophy for Kawasaki.

According to Kawasaki it had achieved at least 40 per cent localisation on the Z250 and most wearable components were now sourced locally to reduce upkeep costs, eported. Like the Ninja 300 though, the pricing continued to be somewhat discouraging at a whopping Rs2.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
