India's two-wheeler industry is on a roll according to the figures for the month of May with most major companies reporting improved sales year on year (YoY).
Bajaj Auto's sale (including the sale of three wheelers) surged 62 per cent at 300,000 units as against 185,000 units YoY while TVS motors posted sales of 154,667 units, a 30-per cent increase.
Hero-Honda, the country's largest two wheeler maker, saw sales rise 14 per cent to 435,933 units.
Bajaj Auto's exports shot up 60 per cent at 96,000 units vs 60,000 units YoY. The company's motorcycle sales were up 63 per cent at 270,000 units while its three-wheeler sales saw a 52-per cent jump at 30,000 units as against 20,000 units last year.
The company sold 12,000 units of its new Discover-150 units in May and is now targeting 25,000 units in June. Bajaj Auto expects its exports to increase to 100,000 units in June.
According to Hero Honda Motors senior vice-president (marketing and sales) Anil Dua the 14 per cent growth in May is very satisfying as it comes over the high base of its sales last year. He added the company had had significant contribution from all segments resulting in the achievement.
