PNB bets big on IT to provide end-to-end customer services

PNB to offer the latest and fastest services to its customers through Siemon's solutions and strengthen its real-time demands

New Delhi, October 03, 2005: Punjab National Bank (PNB), one of the largest profit making banking and financial service institutions in India, has selected Siemon's 10G ip copper and fiber end-to-end solutions, to manage the increasing number of network users and real-time demands from customers.

The solution will be implemented in the bank's network operations centre (NOC) and datacenter. More than 600 points of 10G copper connectors and 200 points of 10G fiber have been installed to support various bandwidth intensive applications.

"The Bank has deployed core banking solution, treasury management solution, cheque truncation and MICR, enterprise management system, Internet Banking, Large ATM Network , debit card, and disaster recovery system in the recent past," says KS Bajwa, general manager, IT, PNB.

He adds, "We have state-of-the-art data centre with a NOC running 24x7. All of these systems and applications are bandwidth intensive and therefore we chose Siemon's 10G ip augmented Cat6 solution such that there are no choke points on the network resulting in any downtime," Bank.

By the end of 2005, Punjab National Bank will extend its IT-based financial services to 2,000 of its out of 4,497 branches to offer the latest and fastest services to its customers. The NOC and data centre will be the key in monitoring the entire network on real time basis. It will also facilitate on-line problem resolution , leading to improvement in Customer Service.
