A major fire broke out at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) tower at the suburban Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) early this morning. No one is reported to have suffered burns or injuries, although fire-fighting operations are continuing.

Eight fire engines were rushed to the spot to control the fire and the situation has now been brought under control.

Fire brigade sources said the blaze erupted on the fourth floor of the building at around 8.30 am. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

"The fire is under control and there has been no damage to life," an RBI spokesperson said.

The incident was reported on the floor which houses the offices of the National Payments Corporation of India, she added.

There have been several such incidents of fire at high rises in Mumbai in the recent past. A similar fire broke out in Malad in Mumbai earlier this week.
