Mumbai: About 40 banks are expected to trade on the new free forex trading platform, FX-Clear, which is being offered by Clearing Corporation of India Ltd (CCIL) from today.

While some bankers think CCIL's platform will become the leading terminal for forex trading in the near future, others see it as just another option.

State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Citibank, ABN Amro Bank, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank have already installed their terminals with CCIL's new package.

The remaining players may decide to join depending on the experience of the first 40 or as and when the requisite hardware is in place, says a CCIL official.
