RBI on unstapling of notes news

06 June 2003

Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has clarified that the cash transactions across all its branches will take place only in unstapled notes.

Further, there is no truth in the reports that the RBI office in Kolkata itself does not follow the directive relating to unstapling of note packets, says the apex bank. "Even the non-fresh but reissuable notes are being issued by the RBI across the counters in unstapled condition with cross-banding of note packets."

The RBI further says that ample supply of fresh and reissuable notes of good quality and coins has been made available to the public throughout the country. About 20 billion pieces of soiled notes have been removed from circulation in the recent months by modernisation at the RBI.
