New Delhi: The World Bank is hosting its Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE) in Bangalore on the theme of ‘Accelerating Development.’

The two-day conference beginning 21 May 2003 will have eminent scholars and practitioners from around the world presenting new research findings and discussing key policy issues related to poverty reduction. The ABCDE conference has been held annually in Washington since 1988, and for the past couple of years a similar conference has been held each year in Europe.

Beginning with this year’s conference in Bangalore, each of these conferences will be held in a developing country every other year, reflecting the growing importance of research done in developing countries and the need to bring such conferences closer to participants in the developing world.
