CSB targets Rs 5,000-cr businessnews

Kochi: The Thrissur-based Catholic Syrian Bank (CSB) targets Rs 5,000-crore business during the current fiscal, according to its chairman N R Achan.
Addressing the shareholders of the bank at the 80th annual general meeting of the bank, he said the bank is negotiating with some insurance companies to market various insurance products.
Achan said the bank's performance for the year 2000-01 has been impressive. The bank deposits grew to Rs 2,776 crore recording a growth of over 12 per cent, while the advances grew to Rs 1,263 crore registering a growth of about 20 per cent.
 The operating profits touched a record figure of Rs 48.67 crore compared to Rs 25.55 crore in the previous year. Despite loan loss provisioning to the tune of Rs 24 crore, the bank could record a net profit of Rs 11.25 crore during the year against Rs 6.63 crore in the previous year.
