Railways to introduce Village-on-Wheelsnews
06 July 2004

New Delhi: Railway minister Laloo Prasad Yadav today announced introduction the concept of 'Village on Wheels' trains, to promote tourism among common people.

"Indian railways has been running trains like 'Palace on Wheels' and the 'Royal Orient' for upper-end tourists. No such facility exists for common people, particularly from small towns and villages," Laluoo Prasad said

"It is thus proposed to run special tourist trains with ordinary sleeper class accommodation that will operate to a pre-determined schedule," he said.

These trains will transport tourists to important places of religious and historical importance at an affordable cost, the minister said.

"Apart from promoting tourism, this will enable the common man to easily travel around the country," he added.
