JNPT setting up of two more cargo terminals

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is developing two new terminals as part of its business expansion plan. The business plan has been prepared on the directions of the ministry of shipping, minister of shipping G K Vasan informed the Lok Sabha today.

The port is currently developing a fourth container terminal, at an estimated cost of Rs6,700 crore, he said, adding that Phase-I of the terminal is tentatively scheduled to be started in December 2010 and completed by December 2013.

Phase-II is scheduled to commence in December 2013 and slated for completion in December 2015, the minister said.

JNPT has also undertaken another project for the development of a standalone container terminal with a quay length of 330 metres on the northern end of the port.

The project is estimated to cost around Rs600 crore. Construction is tentatively schedule to start in November 2010 and completed in November 2012.

These two projects would add total capacity of around 5.6 million TEUs per annum to the port.
