New Delhi: The first quarter growth in infrastructure has been 4.1 per cent. The six key infrastructure industries, except electricity, performed poorly in the first quarter of this year and the 4.1-per cent growth is way below the 6.2-per cent growth in previous year's corresponding period.

Official figures released yesterday said the growth in six key infrastructure industries — crude petroleum, petroleum refinery products, coal, electricity, cement and finished steel — in the month of June 2003 fell to 4.7 per cent as against 7 per cent in June 2002.

However, the infrastructure performance was improving on a monthly basis this year since it rose from 3.9 per cent in April, to 4.0 per cent in May and then to 4.7 per cent in June 2003-04.
