India, despite all efforts by the Narendra Modi government, in recent times, remain the most corrupt nation in Asia, says a report published by the global accountability organization, Transparency International.

India leads the pack with a corruption level of 69 per cent while Vietnam, with 65 per cent corruption is in the second spot with Thailand, Pakistan, and Myanmar coming in the third, fourth, and fifth spots.

It may be noted that the list has been used by Forbes under the title ''Asian 5 most corrupt countries''.

Asia is one of the regions where malpractices and financial breaches are the major reasons why there is high power distance relationship between the public officers and the public.

Corruption in government institutions is one of the major reasons that halt the progress of developing nations toward achieving their full economic potential on a par with developed countries.

In a public poll, just 52 per cent of the Indians were found to be not satisfied with Modi government's performance while the rest expressed their resentment over the policies of the current government.

The survey led by Transparency International prolonged for 18 months in which opinions of 20,000 people from 16 different countries were inculcated in the report. The accountability organisation has put India at 76th position in a list of 168 most corrupt nations.
