The all India Consumer Price Index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of February 2008 increased by 1 point and stood at 135. During February, 2008, the index recorded an increase of 6 points in Labac Silchar centre, 5 points in Darjeeling centre, 3 points each in Giridih, Kodarma, Bokaro, Quilon and Amritsar centres, 2 points in 10 centres and 1 point in 29 centres. The index decreased by 2 points each in Salem and Rourkela centres and 1 point in 8 centres while in the remaining 22 centres the index remained stationary. The increase of 6 points in Labac Silcher centre is mainly on account of increase in the prices of rice, wheat atta, masur dal, mustard oil, goat meat, pan leaf, etc. The increase of five points in Darjeeling centre is mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat atta, masur dal, mustard oil, pork, etc. The decrease of two points in Salem centre is mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice, arhar dal, poultry, eggs, onion, garlic, vegetable and fruit items, flower / garlands, etc, in Rourkela centre this decrease of 2 points is the outcome of decrease in the prices of wheat atta, vegetable and fruit items, etc. The indices in respect of the six main centres are as follows : | Ahmedabad | 132 | Bangalore | 142 | Chennai | 128 | Delhi | 129 | Kolkata | 136 | Mumbai | 138 | The point to point rate of inflation, during February, 2008 based on the CPI-IW on base 2001=100 has decreased from 5.51 per cent in January, 2008 to 5.47 per cent in February, 2008.
