20 SEZs in West Bengal get formal approval news

Kolkata: The union government today cleared 20 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in West Bengal and also also gave its in principle approval to 17 other SEZs.

Nirupam Sen, commerce and industry minister, West Bengal, said the total investment in the SEZs will add up to Rs228,039 crore.

Sen also said that the union government's approval to 86 other industrial projects in the state for the current fiscal would create around 642,000 new jobs.

The SEZs would utilise 50 per cent of the allotted land area for processing units, and 25 per cent for creating related infrastructure and the remaining 25 per cent would be used for various other purposes, he added.

Sen also said that the state government would not follow any model rehabilitation package while acquiring the land for these industrial projects but would try to compensate and rehabilitate the people whose land would be acquired for any project.

The state government will also try to provide jobs for at least one member from each family whose land would be acquired, he added.
