New Delhi: Employment in the country's organised sector has shrunk. Speaking to the Rajya Sabha today, minister of state of the ministry of labour and employment Oscar Fernandes said that the details of employment in organised sector from 1999 to 2005 were are under: Year | Employment (in million) | 1999 | 28.11 | 2000 | 27.96 | 2001 | 27.79 | 2002 | 27.21 | 2003 | 27.00 | 2004 | 26.44 | 2005 | 26.46 | The 11th Plan document, as approved by National Development Council, has projected 58 million job opportunities as likely to be created during the 11the Plan period, with additional employment opportunities being generated mainly in the services and manufacturing sectors. In particular, labour intensive manufacturing sectors such as food processing, leather products, footwear, and textiles, and service sectors such as tourism and construction are likely to create the most jobs.
