Government mulling relief for exporters: Kamal Nath news
09 February 2008

Bangalore: Union commerce minister Kamal Nath has hinted at sops for exporters, hit by rupee strengthening against the dollar, next month.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the Federation of Indian Exporters' Organisations in Bangalore, Nath said the relief might either be through a cut in levies or through reimbursement of levies paid to the government.

Nath said that among the alternatives being considered was the possibility of a cut in service tax on all services related to export production and delivery.

He assured exporters that the current US economic slowdown would not drag India's growth and also apprised them of the government's plans to develop an industrial corridor linking Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai for which Japanese majors  had shown interest in bringing in investments.
