India and Iran discuss enhancing cooperation in Oil and Gas sector news

India and Iran today held a discussions to enhance cooperation in the oil and gas sector including LNG import contract signed in June, 2005.

At a meeting between Murli Deora, minister for petroleum and natural gas and Dr. Davood Danesh Jafari, minister for economic affairs and finance of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi, Deora emphasised that a solution to implement the LNG deal should be arrived at by the two countries.

He also expressed keen interest in the finalisation of the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.

On his part the visiting minister said that Iran is open to hold discussions on the LNG contract. In addition, he invited investments by both private and public sector companies in developing gas fields in Iran with a possibility to set up LNG facilities and an arrangement to export LNG to India. He also emphasised the need for finalizing agreements in respect of IPI gas pipeline project.
