The board of approvals of the special economic zones (SEZs) today sanctioned two proposals from Infosys Technologies Ltd for setting up SEZs in Andhra Pradesh.

Eight applications for setting up SEZs, including three proposals for conversion of in-principle approvals to formal approvals were taken up for clearance.

It has also given in-principle approvals for a multi product SEZ by Ispat Industries Limited and a biotech SEZ by Veritas Infrastructure Development Limited, both of which will be located in Maharashtra

According to the G K Pillai, chairman, board of approvals, formal approvals have been granted for 362 SEZs out of which 136 have been notified. The estimated investment in the notified SEZs is estimated at Rs45,377 crore and the potential for providing direct employment is 38,405.

Another nine proposals would be taken up for clearance at the BoA'' next meeting on August 30.
