New
Delhi: The Board of Approvals today cleared 28 SEZ
proposals, including Mukesh Ambani''s Navi Mumbai project.
The board gave formal approval to 21 SEZs and ''in-principle''
approvals to seven proposals.
On
6 July, the Parliamentary committee on SEZs had said that
no further SEZs should be notified unless the existing
law was amended to incorporate the changes related to
land acquisitions.
The
committee had also said that there should not be transfer
of ownership, and all land for SEZs should be taken on
lease by developers.
The
committee, headed by Murli Manohar Joshi, had specified
that the maximum area for multi-product SEZs should not
exceed 2,000 hectares, if the land acquired is cultivable.
However, an empowered group of ministers (GoM), had fixed
the land ceiling limit at 5,000 hectares.
