Mumbai:
The annual rate of inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) eased to
4.28 per cent for the week ended June 9, from 4.80 per cent for the previous week,
mainly due to a decline in the prices of food articles and some manufactured items.
The inflation
rate stood at a much higher level of 5.29 per cent in the corresponding week a
year ago. Among
the food articles, prices of pulses, cereals, wheat, fruits and
vegetables and fish-marine witnessed a decline while condiments and spices moved
up. In the manufactured
items, prices of khandsari and soyabean oil came down, while sunflower oil, vanaspati,
imported edible oil became dearer.
