Russia keen on investment in North East news

Aizawl: A 4-member Russian delegation is on a visit to the North East region in a bid to explore investment possibilities.

Official sources here said the delegation, led by ambassador of extraordinary plenipotentiary of Russian Federation to India Uyacheslav I Tribnikov had already visited Tripura last week. They reached here yesterday on a three-day visit.

Besides Tribjikov, head of commercial and financial affairs of the embassy, Vladimor Chryssanthov met Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga and held a meeting with governor Lt Gen (Rtd) M M Lakhera.

Vladimor said Russia had planned to develop better economic cooperation with India, and the region had been identified as a potential sector for investment in future.

''Though it is our first visit to the region, we have found that the Northeast possesses immense investment potential even in agriculture and horticulture sectors, '' Vladimor pointed out.

As part of the programme the delegation will visit Manipur and Nagaland in this week before leaving for Delhi, he said adding the embassy will forward a comprehensive investment proposal to the Russian authorities.
