FM expects around 9 per cent GDP growth in 2007-08news

Finance minister P Chidambaram today said that he expected another year of high GDP growth in 2007-08, with the economy likely to grow by about 9 per cent. The GDP growth for 2006-07 has been pegged at 9.2 per cent

After presenting his annual budget proposals for 2007-08, yesterday, he told a business delegation today that India's growth story was intact. "I look forward to another year of high growth," he said.

The finance minister has also urged industry to hold prices down and help fight inflation.

"I will urge industry to hold the price line in the fight against inflation." He said that inflation could be moderated through duty cuts and monetary steps, Chidambaram said.
