Indians in Canada can apply for visas through mail news
15 November 2006

Mumbai: The Indian Consulate in Toronto would henceforth receive all visa applications from persons of Indian origin (PIO) through mail only. The new visa regime hopes to completely eliminate travel agents and middlemen. This would be effective November 20.

Visa applications with requisite fee and documents from the applicants will be received through mail only and visas would be dispatched within five working days, including the day of receipt and dispatch, Satish Mehta, consul-general of India said.

The new visa system would help to maintain order and security at the premises while providing efficient services to the people, the official said.
The consulate-general would accept visa applications in person in emergencies after a confirmed air ticket is produced, he said, adding, the emergency visa would be issued on the same day and a fee would be charged for the service.

Persons holding Pakistani passports and persons of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin and Czech nationals must apply for visa personally, he added.
