12 May 2006

Chennai: The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) on May 11, 2006, has directed the Mahyco Monsanto Biotech India Ltd to stop charging the trait value of Rs900 on 450 grams of Bt cotton seed sold by it. MRTPC has asked the company to fix a reasonable trait value in line with the rates charged by the parent company in neighbouring countries like China.

The order was on an application moved by the government of Andhra Pradesh asking for a temporary injunction against the restrictive trade practices of Mahyco Monsanto.
