Chennai Port suffers Rs10-crore damagenews

Chennai: The Chennai Port Trust has suffered a damage of Rs10 crore due to the tidal waves.

According to Port officials, due to the rough seas, some ships hit the wharves close to where they were berthed. Further around 1,500 tonne of sugar were lost in the sea owing to collision of three ships while being towed to deep sea.

Some Hyundai cars await exports were also damaged by the tidal waves.

According to officials, the port will resume normal operations within two days once the threat of fresh waves subsides. At present the loading and unloading operations have been stopped.
