Delhi: Indian Minister for Commerce Arun Jaitley was
circumspect on the outcome of the Word Trade Organisation
(WTO) meet and refrained from proclaiming victory for
India's stance at Cancun.
Jaitley
said he would have preferred a "positive outcome"
at the meeting and maintained that India will continue
to engage in future processes under the WTO in a positive
manner. "We will have to pick up the threads from
where they have been left at Cancun and take the process
ahead at the WTO."
Jaitley
held that the balance of control within the WTO got altered
at Cancun. Bharatiya Janata Party president M Venkaiah
Naidu thanked Jaitley for his "forceful" stand.
"India was able to take the leadership at Cancun
by raising issues of concern to the developing countries."
