Mumbai blasts kill 45news

Mumbai: In two blasts that rocked downtown Mumbai, around 45 people were feared killed and over 150 injured. The blasts took place near the Gateway of India and near Zaveri Bazaar (Kalbadevi) between 1 pm and 1.30 pm.

The explosives were apparently concealed in two taxis. Police and fire-brigade personnel, who rushed to the scenes of mishap, are busy helping reach the injured and dead to the hospital and clearing the debris. A red alert has been declared all over Maharashtra.

Around 85 injured people were admitted to JJ Hospital, and 26 people were declared dead before admission, according to Maharashtra Health Minister Digvijay Khanvilkar. At GT hospital three were declared dead before admission and 35 were admitted with serious injuries. Thirteen people were declared dead before admission at St George Hospital.

Sensex plunges
After the news of the twin blasts in the city, the benchmark of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) plunged by over 130 points. The Sensex lost 139.14 points to be quoted at 3985.98 at 1.30 pm after going past 4150 levels early in the day. Nifty too skidded by 48.90 points to around 1261.05.
