Thiruvanthapuram: Telephone numbers in the Kerala Telecom Circle will get converted into seven digits from the midnight of December 20, according to a spokesman of the Principal General Manager's office of the Circle.

This will be done by prefixing `2' to the existing telephone numbers.

However, in the Mananthavady Short Distance Charging Area (SDCA), the seven-digit numbering scheme is sought to be incorporated by replacing the first digit `5' of the existing telephone number with `24', and in Kalpetta, by replacing the first digit `6' with `23'.

The Subscriber Trunk Dialling (STD) codes for of Mananthavady and Kalpetta will be changed to 0496.

Another region where the STD code is being changed is Lakshadweep; the new code is 0489, which will be applicable for all the group islands.
The wireless in local loop (WLL) subscribers of Ernakulam will have `2092' as a prefix to the existing numbers instead of `292'.

The existing tariff and other schemes of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will remain unchanged, the spokesman added.
