Kochi: A body of US investors plans to bring top business delegates to Kerala later this year to scout for business opportunities.

A delegation of the US-based Indian Foreign Investment Agency (IFIA), which facilitates foreign direct investment in India for its members, is currently in Kerala and has promised to bring about 50 chief executives to the state.

The top executives will visit Kochi in November 2002. A special business process outsourcing conclave will be held in Kochi coinciding with the visit, says Kerala IT Minister P K Kunjalikutty, who met the IFIA team recently.

Among the visiting delegates are Keith Fiveson and Zubin Kapadia, who played a crucial role in organising a visit by then US president Bill Clinton to Hyderabad, an emerging IT hub, in 2000.

A team of Nasdaq officials was also in Kerala last week, giving an indication that the states reputation of being a stronghold of militant labour is beginning to wear due to the reforms initiated by the United Democratic Front government.

The Nasdaq officials visited Technopark, an IT centre Thiruvananthapuram, and assured companies there all help to list on the worlds top-tech market. The visits come on the heels of Kerala announcing a fresh IT policy, which offers several incentives to investors. Prime among the recommendations is extending investment subsidy ranging from 7.5-40 per cent on fixed capital investment for both software and hardware companies.
