Cusat to set up depository for IPR issues news
12 April 2002
Kochi: The union ministry for human resources development has given its nod for setting up a depository of intellectual property rights (IPR) at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) in view of the increasing relevance of IPR issues in national and international levels, says Cusat vice-chancellor Dr N Unnikrishnan.

The depository will function as a nodal centre for the Indian government on IPR issues and the initial activities of the depository will commence within a month, says Unnikrishnan. "The project, which has a total outlay of Rs 34 lakh, will be attached to Cusats School of Legal Studies. It will provide excellent facilities for patenting our research products and will also help to generate patent literacy."

One of the five universities in India that were awarded the Centre for Excellence status by the University Grants Commission, Cusat has several major projects in the offing. Research projects top the list. The university has maintained amiable relations with major Indian research institutes in order to facilitate instant availability of new and crucial research information, sums up Unnikrishnan.
