Bengal resists Jessop, Braithwaite sale news

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has written to Prime Minister A B Vajpayee to review the proposed sale of the government stake in Jessop and Company, Braithwaite and Burn Standard and Company.

Ruia Coatex is reportedly the highest bidder for the sale of Jessop. Bhattacharya has said that the decision with regards to Jessop should be reviewed, as it is a railway wagon-maker. Trade unions have written separately to Central Vigilance Commissioner N Vittal to advise the government against the proposed decision.

On 21 February, the state industry minister had come out strongly against the proposed action of the disinvestment commission
