Monsoons affects sugarcane, urad crops news
08 August 2006

The monsoons have impacted crops and sugarcane and urad crops have been hit hard, reports CNBC-TV18.

Flooding in the key urad growing areas of Maharashtra, Vidharbha and Andhra Pradesh is expected to hurt both crop quality and yield.

Meanwhile, the flood situation has worsened in the main sugar growing areas in Maharashtra such as Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur. This could impact yield and sugar associations are still assessing the damage.

For cotton, the damage has been limited to Parbhani in Maharashtra and some areas of Andhra Pradesh as sowing is almost complete.

The red chilli crop has been spared, except for some early sowing in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh.

One crop that''s benefiting from the downpour is the soyabean crop. The sowing for this crop is nearly complete and the good amount of rain in Madhya Paradesh will help yields.

Rajasthan continues to suffer poor rainfall and this could impact the guar crop.
