Wipro to provide testing facility for Wi-Fi Alliance

Mumbai: Wipro Technologies will provide testing facilities for members of Wi-Fi Alliance in India. Wi-Fi Alliance, the non-profit industry association driving standards for wireless internet access, said Wipro Technologies will do the required testing of products for members of the alliance before they were submitted for certification.

Wipro Technologies will be Wi-Fi Alliance's authorised pre-certification test lab, the third such facility of the global industry trade association in the world. The other two labs are located in the US and Taiwan, Frank Hanzlik, managing director of Wi-Fi Alliance, told a news conference in Bangalore.

The global association has close to 300 member companies devoted to promoting the growth of wireless local area networks (W-LAN).

The pre-certification lab will allow Wipro Technologies, the global IT services division of Wipro Limited, to pre-test products for Wi-Fi Alliance members who are planning to pursue Wi-Fi certification, and marks the non-profit association''s entry into the Indian market.

For the Wi-Fi Alliance, the new arrangement provides on-ground support for Wi-Fi in the fastest growing wireless telecom market in the world.

Testing services is a rapidly growing segment for Wipro Technologies, said Suresh Vaswani, president, Wipro Technology's global IT service lines. The company, he said, has 5,500 professionals dedicated for testing services from which it derived a revenue of $57 million in the last quarter.
