UP! concept car, Tiguan SUV to feature among 10 Volkswagen vehicles to premiere at Delhi Auto Expo

Europe's largest automaker, Volkswagen, plans to premiere 10 vehicles at the New Delhi Auto Show opening tomorrow, with the UP! concept car and the newly developed Tiguan SUV, being the highlights of the ''model offensive'' the automaker has planned to grab market share in India.

Volkswagen UP! at the New Delhi Auto Show "Starting in 2009, Volkswagen wants to deliver 110,000 cars per year in India", said Dr. Jochem Heizmann, board member for vehicle production at the Volkswagen Group, in a communiqué.

The UP! concept car is a rear-engine powered four-seater city car  with an over length 3.45 meters and width 1.63 meters, powered by an environmentally-friendly fuel efficient engine, which could serve as the basis for a new entry-level car from Volkswagen , making it suitable for the Indian market, if the company can price it right.

While the UP! has a futuristic appearance, the sports utility vehicle Tiguan has already been introduced in Europe, and has emerged ''the clear market leader among SUVs in Germany'' says Volkswagen.

Volkswagen Tiguan SUVThe versatile Volkswagen SUV, with up to 1,510-litre cargo volume, exhibits van qualities with a maximum trailer load of 2,500kg. The engine of the multipurpose, all-wheel drive vehicle deliver powerful forward thrust at just above idling speed and are said to be exceptionally economical with the engine power output ranging from 103 kW / 140 PS to 147 kW / 200 PS.
