TCS is now world's best performing IT service provider

Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) topped the list of top 10 best performing IT services providers worldwide in a ranking by US-based Global Services, a publication specialising on IT businesses. TCS, with a strong focus on large deals, has been ranked as the number one IT service provider in the world.

The ranking comes close on the heels of group company Tata Steel winning the Corus battle in Europe.

TCS, which has topped the chart of the Indian IT firms for many years, catapulted to the global ranking of Global Services which compiled the list of the most innovative service providers in the world.

"Its (TCS) focus on large deals and entering the non-US market is likely to take this Indian company further still," the magazine observed.

TCS derives strategic advantage out of large deals that are considered to be relatively less profitable because of lower margins. It uses its offerings in large IT-service deals to cross sell its other offerings consulting, BPO, engineering and infrastructure, it said. Indian companies dominated the list of top performers with 36 of them finding place among the first 100 rankings. Cognizant Technologies occupies the second position followed by Infosys Technologies, HCL Technologies, Neoris and Patni Computer System.

The top ranking in the list – that includes Infosys Technologies, Satyam, Wipro and HCL Technologies – for both leaders in human capital development and best performing BPO providers went to Genpact.
