Tata
Sky, the Tata and Star TV joint venture, has announced a festive offer pan-India,
which lets buyers of new television avail of a discount on the Tata Sky digicomp
proportionate to the size of their new television set.
Under the innovative marketing
promotion, a customer buying a 29-inch TV of any brand along with a Tata Sky digicomp
would receive a 29 per cent discount on the digicomp. On
the other hand, a customer buying only the Tata Sky digicomp can get a flat 20
per cent discount on it, from any dealer in India, up to 15 November 2007. According
to Vikram Mehra, chief marketing officer, Tata Sky, the offer is aimed at improving
the viewing experience of new TV buyers. It
is a well known fact that the picture and broadcast quality of direct-to-home
satellite connections is superior to cable networks, which suffer from last mile
transmission losses and network hardware related quality losses, which the company
has chosen to leverage to entice the customer to "upgrade" to a DTH
service at the time of buying a new television. Additionally,
Tata Sky has added a number of channels to its offering, including 15 SUN channels,
Kalaignar TV, NDTV Good Times, UTV Bindass, Neo Sports and Neo Sports Plus, and
two interactive services, Actve Cooking and Actve Astrology. With these, the company
now offers a total of over 140 channels. The
Actve Cooking service allows viewers to access recipes at the press of a button.
The Actve Astrology provides daily predictions for all sun signs in a similar
manner.
