Siemens launches HLRi

The server-based HLRi, developed in major parts by SCS in Bangalore, is a mission-critical component of every mobile network, which contains the essential data to facilitate a mobile call. It manages subscriber mobility and subscriber data administration.

The HLRi is a critical network element of every GSM and UMTS based mobile network. It is the repository of major subscriber related information like subscriber number, supplementary service rights, authentication parameters and subscriber location information. This information has to be managed in the day-to-day operation of the network. Additionally the subscribers'' actual locations are stored in the HLRi and are automatically updated, whenever the subscriber moves to another location area.

One HLRi can handle up to 4 million subscribers thereby allowing the operator to manage his network growth with less investment per subscriber. Also, HLRi can handle both GSM and UMTS based subscribers in parallel.

Says Manfred Grenzhaeuser, director, SCS: "After the acceptance by two European customers we are sure that we have met the ambitious requirements of our customers. Siemens can now offer a reliable product of high performance with a user friendly operator interface, at a competitive price, substantially helping the mobile operators to do business in a highly competitive market.

"This is a major achievement for SCS and also indicative of the talent, expertise and capability that our engineers in our Bangalore development centre have, to develop mission-critical products of high quality."
