Teradata to provide EDW solutions to Hutchison

Mumbai: Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation announced that it will provide Teradata enterprise data warehouse (EDW) solution to Hutchison in India. The Teradata EDW will integrate information from 10 circles, including Mumbai where Hutchison owns the world famous Orange brand, and will provide the telecom major with a single integrated view of its enterprise.

The Teradata EDW will augment Hutchison''s overall strategy and provide the telecom major with vital business intelligence for management and operational decision-making. With more than 4 million subscribers, and a Pan-Indian presence in 12 circles, Hutchison is amongst the leading cellular service providers in the country.

Having adopted a twin growth strategy - that of organic and inorganic growth - Hutchison today comprises of different operational units working as a single organisation. Hutch wanted a capability to proactively manage its business as a whole, and improve decision making to support local objectives - retention, segmentation, tariffing, etc.

"We expect the Teradata data warehouse to not just provide us "single-view" of our business, but also provide us the ability to monitor and manage respective circles as individual entities," said Asim Ghosh, managing director, Hutchison

Sandip Das, executive director, Hutchison added, "We are one of the earliest businesses, leave alone telecom, in India to use data warehousing way back in 1996. We have travelled through an arduous path over the years and had great learnings. It is only logical for us to move to the next level in data warehousing in a high growth business. The Teradata solution will provide us the ability to design and deliver personalised services to our customers, despite the size and scale of our subscriber base."

"This win is a landmark achievement for Teradata, both from a global and domestic perspective. This win provides us our first footprint in the Hutchison group anywhere in the world, and is also our first telecom win in the country. We are delighted to work with Hutch to develop its enterprise data warehouse. With our expertise and in-depth knowledge in the industry, we hope to provide strong support for Hutch," said Julian Beavis, Vice President for Teradata in the South Pacific and SEA Area".
